This Mission Drift (2023) is an ongoing reference site that exposes institutional language as something constructed rather than fixed. By allowing users to reshape official terminology through an interactive dropdown system, the piece reveals how bureaucratic language can naturalize exclusion while also opening space for resistance, reinterpretation, and collective imagining. Expanding over time, the work becomes both archive and intervention, asking viewers to consider who institutional language serves and what other futures it might make possible.

Digital America interviewed Brian Gillis in April of 2026.
:::

Brian Gillis’s work is rooted in service related to social equity and access. By using platforms, approaches, and points of exchange in art, he creates opportunities for access to socially valuable information and support. Much of this work involves institutional partnerships that connect individuals and communities to resources associated with food insecurity, housing, mental health, substance abuse, criminal justice, and violence.
