“Occupation” (2023) is a video performance piece that examines the ideas surrounding work, addressing both the work climate of the post-pandemic era and injurious pre-pandemic ideas about labor. The video focuses on two characters dressed in pink suits with their faces obscured. This obscurity in combination with the oddity of their movements makes the purpose of their, and our, “work” unclear.

CoalFather is a duo, “working as a single artist”, composed of Craig Newsom and Kara Jansson. They are based out of New York and Illinois, and first formed while organizing conferences on mobile Digital art at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2010 and 2011.
