In an attempt to seek sounds in unusual places, Alina Jacob’s Long Radio (2022) represents personal experiences and interactions of the artist throughout 2021. Jacob’s work focuses on finding sounds “through antiquated technologies that are not usually considered musical instruments.” While listening to the piece, sounds of micro-cassettes, overdubs of a Yamaha PSS-470 keyboard, and plugging and unplugging different cables are presented. Although this piece has personal ties to the artist, Long Radio also aims to maintain a tenuous balance between chaos and control while also fostering an intermediary between the acoustic and electronic spheres.
